Welcome graphic

When we loo back over the year, we can be proud and happy to be a part of many events. That certainly would be true for those who had the foresight to begin in Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church. In 1917,God moved upon the hearts of men and women to begin in a new work in Opelika,Alabama. Not knowing the results of their efforts, they would be proud to know their vision and insight had not been in vain.

We have been blessed over the past eighty-four years with men and women who have dedicated themselves to the continued spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The following pastor have faithfully served Greater Peace within eighty four years: Rev. J.S. Tate(1917-1932), Rev. S.M. Nathenal(1932-1933), Rev. Philpot(1933-1934), Rev. N.H. Carr(1943-1966) Rev. W.G. Glover(1967-1973), Rev. H.S.(1973-1993), and Rev. C.E. Jones(1993-present)

For seventy nice years, the church was located on the corner of Dover Street and Jeter Avenue. In 1996, a new worship began in the new building. Over the years, God has blessed Greater Peace with a steady growth of new members in the fellowship. The present membership is over 850 and rapidly approaching 900 members. Attendance on SUnday ranges from 350 to 400. A radio broadcast has been initiated on Sunday and Wednesday mornings that has proven to be a blessing to the sick, the shut ins, and the community.
There have been several ministries and programs institued in an attempt to meet the needs of the members and the community. we have a growing Sunday School and a Sunday Evening Worship Service. We have several ministries.
At Greater Peace, there has always been a supportive board of deacons. The church currently has a full-time staff of pastor, administrative assistant, secretary and custodian. Presently, there are two associate ministers. Also, there are three choirs who provide music for worship and other programs of the church. Each auxiliary and committee has played an intricate part in the growth and success of the church

One may become a member of the church by letter if he was in good stand with his previous church. This letter is usually requested by the clerk of the new church from the old church
